SAY NO TO VIOLENCE

All around the world so many people suffer from verbal, mental, emotional and psychical abuse from their partners. please seek help and break the silence. Your life matters to God and to us. We care.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Victims often feel unable to tell anybody what has happened to them because they are afraid – of deportation, the authorities, and their abusers. Traffickers may keep their victims enslaved by telling them they will be arrested if they seek help. Using victims’ fear about their immigration status to control them is a common tactic used by traffickers and perpetrators of other forms of gender-based violence. Refuge understands this fear.

Some people see modern slavery as an unfortunate by-product of migration. This is wrong: modern slavery is a crime, it is a violation of a person’s human rights and victims need and deserve protection and support.

SEXUAL VIOLENCE

Sexual violence includes any form of sexual activity (involving physical contact, words, or photographs and texts) that takes place without the other person’s full and informed consent. Rape and sexual assault are mostly carried out by someone known to the victim: a husband, boyfriend, friend, colleague or other family member.

Sexual violence can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, class, or background.

Research shows that the majority of sexual violence is experienced by women and girls, but men and boys can also be victims (please break the silence)

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

is the systematic pattern of behaviour on the part of the abuser designed to control his partner.

The abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, financial or sexual. Anyone forced to alter their behaviour because they are frightened of their partner’s reaction is being abused. It can begin at any stage of the relationship. Domestic violence is rarely a one-off. Incidents generally become more frequent and severe over time.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of age, social background, gender, religion, sexuality or ethnicity. Whilst domestic violence happens in all relationships. Statistics show the vast majority of domestic violence incidents are carried out by men and experienced by women.

DEPRESSION

Depression is a disorder that is evidenced by excessive sadness, loss of interest in enjoyable

things, and low motivation. It is normal to experience feelings of sadness and despair in response to adverse life events.

Such events could include loss, major life changes, stress, or disappointment. In most cases, the sad feelings resolve as you come to terms with the changes in your life. In situations such as bereavement, these feelings may persist for months and return at significant times, such as birthdays and anniversaries related to the lost loved one.

Provided you have times when you can enjoy things, however, this sadness is not a sign of depression. Depression is common. One in three people will experience a major depressive episode at some stage in their lives. While most cases of depression are mild, about one person  in ten will have a moderate or severe episode.
